My One Word…a re(s)olutionary approach the the New Year

A few years ago, I ran across a little book that changed the way I look at the approach of a new year. Now, little books have been changing my life for years (e.g. The Red Sea Rules by Robert J. Morgan, The Grace & Truth Paradox by Randy Alcorn, What Matters Most by Doug Fields, etc.).

The more I read this little book, the more I connected with a concept that seemed so elementary I had to truly talk myself into settling into it. Instead of New Year’s resolutions, I was challenged to find one word to represent what I hoped God would do in my life in the coming year.

I was sold…no list, no boxes to check, just a word that would serve as the pivot point for all else. Seems a lot easier, doesn’t it? To hone in on a single area of your life you’d love to see God move is a little harder than you’d think.

It’s a challenge to use a laser-like focus in persistently pursuing a change in your spiritual life, but it’s worth it.

This new year, I encourage you to visit http://www.myoneword.org to get started. Ditch the lists, the endless resolutions that fall by the wayside, the emotional obligation to repeat the same things as last year or the same things that your co-worker, cousin, or comrade are committing to this year. Choose your ONE WORD, & see what God does. I know what mine will be.
